Apparently No Yakuza 0 PC in Production

Amazon.com have updated their Yakuza 0 store page with some new box art. Not a big deal, right? But if you take a look at their updated box art you can see the “PS4 Console Exclusive Game” logo. Some people took this to mean it was heading to PC, but SEGA have said not to expect one.

The “PS4 Console Exclusive Game” tag appears to be distinct “only on PlayStation”, and tends to be to leave the door more comfortably open should companies wish to put a PC version out. Still, compared to “only on PlayStation” it does feel a little clunkily worded, and you can see how it certainly would seem to suggest a PC port is on the way. Upcoming PS4 exclusives still features “Only on PlayStation”, such as Akiba’s Beat as pointed out on NeoGAF.

It’s worth noting this is the label that also appeared on the PS4/PC Street Fighter V. I mean also *pushes glasses up face* it’s kind of inaccurate anyway as Yakuza 0 originally released on both PS3 and PS4 in March 2015 in Japan so really “only on PlayStation” would be more accurate in any case…

But SEGA have responded to the rumour stating that “all that is confirmed and all that players should expect is a PlayStation 4 release. There is no PC version in production.” That’s a pretty harsh stop for the Yakuza 0 PC hype train. Though maybe it not being in “production” doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not in “development”. The label is a bit of a mystery, but it looks like those holding out for a Yakuza 0 PC release may sadly be holding out in vain.

Time to show SEGA the money.

No other Yakuza game has been released on Steam, though both Sonic Mania and Project Sonic 2017 are confirmed to be coming to PC. SEGA ports have generally been pretty good on PC in recent years. It’s not clear why SEGA seem pretty set on not bringing Yakuza to PC, but we’d love to see the whole series on there. And just why does this box art have the console exclusive tag and not “only on PlayStation”? Again, another mystery. Maybe some poor intern just made a mistake.

Yakuza 0 releases 24th January 2017 on PlayStation 4 in the west.

Spread the love!
