Famitsu Readers Vote Persona 5 Best RPG of All Time

Over the course of June 22nd – June 28th, Weekly Famitsu ran a poll with its readers on what they considered the best RPGs of all time, and now the results have come in! Despite being pretty new, Persona 5 came in first place, even beating classics like Final Fantasy VII! Readers could vote for 3 games and there are some unexpected choices!

Here’s how the top 20 falls:

1. Persona 5 – 256

2. Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation – 218

3. Chrono Trigger – 194

4. NieR: Automata – 177

5. Final Fantasy VII – 169

6. Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride – 165

7. Suikoden II – 155

8. NieR – 151

9. Persona 3 -131

10. Final Fantasy XV – 110

11. Xenoblade Chronicles – 104

12. Final Fantasy X – 100

13. Xenogears – 91

14. Persona 4: Golden – 90

15. Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen – 82

16. Final Fantasy VI – 81

17. EarthBound – 78

18. Final Fantasy IX – 75

19. Final Fantasy VIII – 74

20. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – 72

Some of the results are quite surprising! Final Fantasy XV has quite a high spot, despite being a bit of a divisive game, and only one western RPG made the top 20 at all! There was a pretty varied pool of voter ages, as well platforms and years of release for the games that made the cut too, so it doesn’t seem like a particularly biased group.

With the vast amount of praise it received, it’s not much of a shock to see Persona 5 on there, but I still didn’t expect it would be number 1! The more recent Persona games have certainly taken the Famitsu readers by storm for P3, P4, and P5 to all be in the top 20 too!
