Mystic Messenger: Introducing Jumin Han

Well, we knew a suit was involved, but now we also know who’s wearing it! Cheritz, a South Korean otome developer, has now introduced the first bachelor in their new app game, Mystic Messenger: Jumin Han! It’s a very interesting name, and certainly the surname of Han in South Korea brings up connotations of nobility, the name literally meaning ‘leader’ or ‘country’. My guess is that this character knows of the finer things in life!

The explanation of this character on the Mystic Messenger website doesn’t go into great detail, but we are given a few facts to tide us over until the winter, 2015 release date. Han is 26 years old and works as an executive director (although we don’t know to what kind of company). As you can probably tell by the striped shirt, Han is a fan of stripes and symmetrical patterns. He also likes cats, and currently owns a cat called Elizabeth 3rd. Perhaps Han is an admirer of the British Monarchy, or perhaps he has some English lineage?

He also seems to be slightly out of touch with the average Joe’s lifestyle, as you can tell by the quote, ‘What are “Donuts”? Are they some kind of candy?’ A sheltered, privileged upbringing could very well be the case here. His suit and no-nonsense pose certainly suggest that he is man of status, albeit a hardworking one.

This first glimpse at character design also lets us see what kind of art style will be prevalent in the game. Not quite as shiny and exotic as Dandelion –Wishes Brought to You-, but also not as illuminate and soft as Nameless ~ The One Thing You Must Recall, Mystic Messenger instead resembles other otome apps such as D3 Publishers Forbidden Romance: Office Lovers. Cheritz’s designs do change per game, and so it’s difficult to tell if Cheritz made this decision based on the style fitting the mobile app market, or if they simply wanted a different style for their latest game. Either way the design is still attractive, although I hope the familiarity doesn’t cause it to blend in too much among other otome apps. Cheritz games are certainly not ones to be overlooked, after all.

Now that we’ve been introduced to Jumin Han, I’m even more excited to find out about the other four potential bachelors! I’m also interested to see what the heroine will look like. Cheritz has always created their heroines with the same amount of time and detail they would spend on a bachelor. This means no blank faces or back of the head shots (as found in some other otome app games) in CGs. It will be interesting to see if this same detail is carried over to Cheritz’s first app project. You will also be happy to hear that the Download link on the Mystic Messenger website is now clickable. This means you can now download banners and icons featuring Jumin Han!

Spread the love!
