New Resident Evil 7 Gamescom Trailer Shows Player Being Hunted

Resident Evil 7 took us all by surprise when it was announced at E3 along with a playable PSN demo, not by being announced itself but by just how different it seems from other mainline games in the series. The brand new Resident Evil 7 Gamescom trailer continues to show how the game will play.

As already confirmed this gameplay trailer continues to use a first-person perspective, and just like the demo we played already it takes the form of a found footage video. This time the player is female, trying to leave a message for “Ethan”. She is chased into a gated labyrinth of half-ruined wooden shacks by creepy lady with a lantern, previously introduced to us as “Marguerite” — a member of the mysterious “family” that lived in the house from the previous demo and trailer.

Moreso than the previous trailer and even the demo this new trailer shows off some of the actual mechanics that will be in the game. It’s unclear whether pursuit will be a constant threat, or if there will be set sections, but it seems like it may play a key part of the game, not only with this but also with the demo’s ending. The trailer also shows off a “hiding” feature where you’ll need to take cover behind something while Marguerite searches a room for you before leaving.

It’s spooky and a little creepy, but being followed by the slow moving Marguerite doesn’t necessarily seem quite as tension-inducing as having an unexpected Crimson Head scrabble its way to you. But it’s something that will be pretty hard to tell how it will feel without getting hands on. Here’s hoping for another demo. It’s also the kind of thing that could really freak you out in VR. Hopefully the game doesn’t suffer from accommodating VR over providing the best non-VR possible too.
