New Trailer for Hotaru no Nikki

Nippon Ichi Software brings us another interesting title called Hotaru no Nikki, or Firefly’s Diary. Hotaru no Nikki takes place on December 31 in the year 9999. You guide a girl with horns called Mion, who has lost her memories, out of an abandoned ruin.

You do this by controlling two fireflies one normal one and another shadow one. The game makes good use of the PlayStation Vita, as you control the normal firefly using the touch screen and the shadow firefly using the rear touchpad. Along the way you will be attacked by shadow monsters and because Mion is defenseless you must use the surroundings in order to defend her.

Hotaru no Nikki looks really nice, featuring a picturesque 2D art style. The game is directed by Masayuki Furuya who also worked on Disgaea. Hotaru no Nikki may look a bit like Dokuro, a game which was also originally released on Vita and is now available for both iOS and Android.

For those that want to have a feel for the gameplay you can have a peak on the official site.

The game will be out in Japan on June 19 this year, exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. The game is surprisingly rated CERO D for ages 17 and up, because of its explicit death scenes. Hopefully we will get a localization soon as Hotaru no Nikki is shaping up to be an amazing looking title.
