NieR Automata Battle System Details Revealed
Square Enix and Platinum Games have detailed some NieR Automata battle system details and screenshots. The new information gives some insight into the gameplay mechanics and available weapons.
The battle system will play using a simple two-button combat mechanic. The square button is for quick attacks and the triangle is for heavy attacks. Using the two in different combinations will allow you to unleash powerful strings of attacks. You can set different weapons to the two buttons, and will be able to change between sets of weapons fluidly in battle using the D-pad. R2 will function as an evade button. If you evade precisely when an enemy strikes, you will become temporarily invincible, and special attack techniques can be used during this period.
The weapons available are a one-handed sword, a two-handed sword, and melee weapons. The one-handed sword is balanced in speed, strength, and range.
The two-handed sword is optimal for long reach and powerful attacks.
The melee weapons have a small range, but enable you to get many attacks in quickly.
In addition, the Pod support system can also be used at a distance to gun down enemies. Maintenance shops throughout the game allow you to use money and materials to upgrade the Pod system, increasing its attack power and expanding its range of attacks.
For those who aren’t as confident at action games, NieR: Automata‘s easy mode will provide you with an ‘auto’ setting, where the character will attack and evade automatically, so all you have to do is move around.
Generally it seems to be what we’d expect from Platinum Games, and we look forward to seeing more!
NieR: Automata will release for PS4 on 23rd February in Japan, and for PS4 and PC in North America and Europe in early 2017. Thanks to Famitsu for the pictures.
