NIS America to not publish Atlus games in Europe

NIS America has announced that, sadly, they will not be publishing Atlus titles within Europe past the upcoming release of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir.

NIS America has been brilliant in bringing Atlus games to Europe in a decent timeframe, and if it weren’t for them then there’s a chance some games wouldn’t have come over here at all. Knowing that NIS America won’t be publishing Atlus games anymore is truly saddening, but I hope that SEGA will be able to fulfil their duties as publisher and ensure that Europe aren’t left waiting in the cold for Atlus games. In North America, Atlus will not be distributing NIS America titles.

NIS America CEO, Takuro Yamashita, spoke to MCV regarding their partnership and had the following to share:

“Around ten days ago, we terminated our alliance with Atlus in Europe and the US,” Yamashita told MCV.

“Atlus became very picky about selecting the European publishing partner after it was bought by Sega. It always cherry picked its EU publishing partner based on who offered the highest minimum guarantee on a title by title basis. I noticed that it was very difficult for NIS America to establish an equal-partnership with Atlus.

“Atlus and its European games have contributed a lot to the expansion of NIS America in Europe. I would like to express my greatest appreciation to them for that.”

What Yamashita has said doesn’t shock me in the slightest and it’s clearly evident that the break-up wasn’t wanted, but it’s nice to see them close out with a thank you for helping NIS America to expand. Hopefully we see Persona 5, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse and other titles get the brilliant release that they deserve, and that we aren’t left waiting an unreasonably long time for them.

Spread the love!
