Peep Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal Combat, Transformation, and Story Video Teasers

Marvelous Japan have shared new videos showcasing different aspects of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal. Specifically, the combat, transformation, and story sequences. Re:Newal is a remake of Senran Kagura Burst (which is itself expanded version of the first game in the series), but in an Estival Versus sort of style.

Story

Besides action gameplay sequences and animated story sections, there will also be visual novel style elements that will be more straight reading, with some great looking CG backgrounds.

The story covers the same story covered in Senran Kagura Burst, but looks to be using the same 3D engine and mechanics as Estival Versus. Originally, Senran Kagura Burst was a side-on brawler.

Personally, I’ve always loved the original 2D, side-on Senran Kagura games. The brawler mechanics were top-notch, and always felt surprisingly concise and fun to play around with.

It’s interesting to see the remake taking such a different approach to telling that story, and hopefully will encourage more people to experience the mainline Senran Kagura story.

The Estival Versus style mechanics are much more Warriors-esque, and quite a different experience to the original games. That means as well as appealing to those mostly familiar with the Senran Kagura spin-offs, it will also be providing a fresh take on the original story that even franchise veterans may be surprised by.

The story in the “main games” is much more substantial in the spin-offs, and genuinely pretty good. No, really.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal will release in Japan on 22nd February 2018 for PlayStation 4.

Spread the love!
