Could Persona 5 be a 2017 release? UPDATED

Persona 5 has missed both its 2014 and 2015 release dates, but could it now be set to miss its 2016 release date? If anything, this comment thread on Reddit isn’t a good sign.

For those unaware, AtlusPrime is John Hardin who is the PR Manager for Atlus USA, and when asked about if it’s likely that Persona 5 will come West this year, he more or less says that he has no idea. Whilst this might not be news on its own, it’s been roughly half a year since we had any Persona 5 news (even in Japan), and it seems clear that there’s been no work on a Western release yet. I don’t think anybody will be surprised if it gets delayed again and as much as I’d love to get my hands on it as soon as possible, it seems that there’s a good chance that we won’t be seeing it come West this year. With NIS America no longer publishing Atlus titles, Europe is left in the ‘will we be waiting a year or should we import it?’ camp.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this but it’s just disheartening to see, although I wouldn’t expect John Hardin or any Atlus employee to be able to guarantee its release date in any region yet. Do you think we’ll be seeing Persona 5 release this year in Japan? And if so, do you think we’ll see it head to North America and Europe in 2016? It’s almost May so there’s still hope, but it seems that Atlus USA are in the dark almost as much as we are, and that’s not what we want to hear. John did say he doesn’t know though, so it could be just as likely that it’ll arrive this year as it might be as unlikely that it won’t. Maybe I’m just paranoid because of I’m such a massive Persona fan that I dread the thought of another delay, and this mixed in with the lack of news regarding Persona 5 just doesn’t look good. There’s a Persona 5 event on 5th May that we’ll be covering, and we hope to have some light shed on the game and its progress – it wouldn’t go amiss for Atlus to reiterate its 2016 release date again either.

UPDATE: John has replied in the comments himself, clarifying that this was a joke. Thanks to John for taking the time to comment on this article. This article was purely speculation and I believe I made that abundantly clear, and I’m looking forward to what the 5th May brings.

Spread the love!
