Phantom Dust Remaster is Free & Out Today, So, Get It

Hey, everyone. Just last night Adam Greenberg, Xbox’s Head of Marketing, announced that not only would the Phantom Dust Remaster be dropping today, but that it would be free, too!? This is the re-release of the Xbox Original cult classic directed by Panzer Dragoon creator, Yukio Futatsugi.

The Phantom Dust Remaster will be coming to both Xbox One and Windows 10. When the game originally released it was towards the end of the Xbox’s life span, resulting in not many people getting the chance to check it out. Those that did, however, hold it up to be one of the best games ever made. The best way to describe it is a mash-up between a collectible card game and like, a third person shooter? It’s hard to describe, honestly.

Polygon’s exclusive first look

It comes after the big announcement of a Phantom Dust reboot at E3 2014 was shelved, Microsoft ending its relationship with the reboot’s developers, Darkside. It seems this remaster of the original game may be testing the waters for how to proceed with the series going forward.

Interestingly a lot of the reboot had to be reverse-engineered, as the source code doesn’t seem to exist anymore. Besides getting the game working in higher resolutions, they’ve also added in DLC, and tweaked the progression of the game to make it easier to get into the multiplayer earlier.

If you missed out on Phantom Dust the first time, or just want to hop back in, you may as well check it out. Not only is it coming to Xbox One for free, but Windows 10 too. Most of you will probably have one of those, so it’s worth a look!

Spread the love!
