Pokémon Switch Dated for “2018 or Later”
Previously only vaguely announced as coming in the future, the Pokémon Switch game now has a tiny bit more information thanks to Nintendo’s latest supplementary earnings release. Thank God for publicly traded companies. The full thing is available freely online.
It’s still a fairly vague date, but Nintendo have given Pokémon Switch a release window of “2018 or later”, notable as the vaguest date in the document besides the even more elusive Metroid Prime 4.
This likely means they’re aiming for a 2018 release, likely Q4 for a holiday release, but it may end up being pushed back to 2019.
Full on, main-line Pokémon games usually have about a two year cycle, so a goal of late 2018 seems to make sense. That’s discounting Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, which will heavily lean on Sun & Moon’s pre-existing materials, similar to Black & White 2.
Perhaps Pokémon Switch will be quite ambitious, if they’re not quite sure they can make it in 2018 even at this early stage.
It’s one of the most exciting things on a list of titles that will all probably be very good. A lot of Nintendo’s biggest franchises seem to be coming to Switch! It’s time to go all in!
This could be the first mainline Pokémon game ever on what is technically a “home console”, and the first Pokémon RPG on one since Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness in 2005.
Pokémon Switch will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2018 or later.
