Project Re Fantasy Gets First Details

Atlus’s new project, currently referred to as Project Re Fantasy, got a little more insight in this week’s issue of Famitsu. While the main details are due to be given in the upcoming stream, Famitsu’s interview with project director/producer Katsura Hashino and Atlus director Naoto Hiroaka did shed some light on the new project.

Project Re Fantasy is being handled by Atlus’s new Studio Zero, for which Hashino acts as creative producer and director. Shigenori Soejima and Shoji Meguro – who are well known for their art and music in the SMT and Persona games, respectively – are also on board for the new project.

Hashino said that Studio Zero’s decision to do a more traditional high fantasy project stems from Atlus’s nature to counter contemporary trends. When fantasy was mainstream, they dared to create games with modern settings, but now they want to revisit fantasy in a way that is uniquely Atlus.

Hiroaka mentioned that Soejima and Meguro are indespensable members of the Persona team, and will continue to work on Persona, but he didn’t want their work to be limited to only that series. With regards to other projects, Hiroaka said that Atlus are working on other titles, including in the Persona series, and plan to announce some before too long in the new year.

The magazine contains three image boards for Project Re Fantasy. One is a group of soldiers fighting a dragon, to show ‘building new ideas from things in the past’, one is four people and a dog riding in a carriage, representing ‘bonds’, and the last is a red-haired elf girl and a blond boy on a horse, showing ‘a journey’. The interview also confirmed that the character in the teased artwork isn’t necessarily the protagonist, but is concept art to share the team’s frame of mind.

No platform has been confirmed for the new project, but Hashino stated they’re making it for those who like home consoles and love Atlus games. The game is expected to take some time, and Studio Zero will begin recruitment for it after the livestream.

Further details on Project Re Fantasy will be revealed in the stream on 23rd December, at 20:00 JST.

Spread the love!
