Spring 2017 Anime Releases Rundown

The Spring 2017 anime season is swiftly approaching, including some huge titles like Attack on Titan season 2! There’s a great mix of new and continuing series to get stuck into in April!

 

 

 

New:

Love Kome: We Love Rice

Five rice-inspired students of Kokuritsu Inaho Academy seek to surpass bread in popularity in the school. The group form the ‘Love Rice’ unit and plan to show the delicious appeal of rice by performing at the Harvest Show.

 

Clockwork Planet

Naoto is a high school drop out and talented amateur tinkerer in a world where the entire surface has become one giant machine through over-exploitation. When a box containing a female automaton crashes into his house one day, Naoto gets his chance to be a hero as the world starts to undergo great change.

 

Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho

Zero is a witch on a journey to find the ‘Book of Zero’ – a tome so powerful it can destroy the world. Accompanying her is a half-beast half-human mercenary who longs to be human and acts as her guard.

 

sin Nanatsu no Taizai

Ecchi fantasy based on a line of figures and a YouTube radio show.

 

Tsuki ga Kirei

Akane Mizuno and Kotarou Azumi have become classmates for the first time in their third year of middle school. The series follows their daily lives, the people they grow close to, and youthful romance in the face of change and uncertainty.

 

Oushitsu Kyoushi Haine

Heine Wittgenstein may look like a child, but he’s an adult man, and now he’s off to be the Royal Tutor for the four princes of Grannzreich. Will he be able to keep these eccentric princes in line?

 

Tsugumomo

Kazuya Kagami treasures the obi left to him by his late mother more than anything else, but he never expected it to save his life! One day, the obi transofrms into a kimono-clad glad girl called Kiriha, who says she is an artifact spirit and Kazuya is her owner! With her, his overprotective sister, his friend Chisato, a priestess, and a sorceress thrown in, Kazuya’s life has suddenly become a lot more complicated!

 

Sakurada Reset

In the small town of Sakurada, almost half the population possess special powers. Among these are Kei Asai, who has a perfect memory, and Misora Haruki, who can turn back time a maximum of three days. They use their powers together to solve cases for the Service Club, a group used the town administration uses to monitor those with powers and to protect the peace.

 

Kabukibu!

Kurogo Kurusu is a high school student with a passion for kabuki. He longs to perform kabuki, but the school doesn’t have a kabuki club, so it’s up to Kurogo to set one up and find members!

 

Kenka Banchou Otome: Girl Beats Boys

Based on the otome game. Hinako has grown up thinking she has no living relatives, until she meets a boy who says he’s her older twin brother. What’s more, he wants her to take his place attending an all-boys school for delinquents!

 

Tomica Hyper Rescue Drive Head: Kidou Kyuukyuu Keisatsu

Inspired by the line of toy cars. Drive Heads are special vehicles that can transform from cars into humanoid mechs, and are used by the mobile emergency police Hyper Rescue to respond to increasingly complex crime and disasters. Grade schooler Gou Kurumada is one of a group of children found to be suitable drivers and must work with Hyper Rescue to save the day!

 

Granblue Fantasy The Animation

Based on the popular mobile game. The world is made up of many islands floating in the sky. One day, a boy named Gran and his companion Vyrn come across a girl named Lyria. Lyria is on the run from the Erste Empire, who seek to rule over the islands using military prowess. In their escape from the Empire, Gran and the others set out into the vast skies.

 

Alice to Zouroku

The mysterious power ‘Alice’s Dream’ gives a group of young girls the ability to turn their thoughts into reality. These girls are kept are locked away in secret and experimented on, but Sana has the power to disobey the laws of physics, and manages to escape. When she crosses paths with the stubborn Zouroku, his carefully ordered life will never be the same.

 

Renai Boukun

Guri is an angel who can make any two people who kiss into a couple by writing their names in her Love Note. She accidentally writes down the name of Seiji Aino, and will die unless he kisses someone! Things only get more complicated with the appearance of Akane – a yandere who loves Seiji and won’t let anyone else have him!

 

Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii desu ka?

Humans have been driven to extinction by Beasts. The only ones who can defeat these Beasts are Fairies, but the battle is a call to certain death. The last surviving human awakes from a slumber lasting hundreds of years. Determined to continue his battle against the Beasts any way he can, he steps in to lead the female warriors.

 

Mori no Yousei: Kinoko no Musume

A 3D CG series based on a picture book that imagines varities of mushroom as girls.

 

Akindo Sei no Little Peso

Based on the mobile game. Akindo is the best planet in the universe when it comes to earning money, but the planet’s ruler, Prince Peso, is only interested in paying micro-transactions for his mobile games! When the king demands all of the planet’s money be brought to him, Peso and his underlings are cast out, and travel around engaging aliens in business battles.

 

Sakura Quest

Five girls working in the tourism bureau of a small provincial town are made into ambassadors of tourism known as ‘Monarchs’ when the town revives its ‘micro-nation’ style of tourism. The series depicts their lives over a year as they develop in their new role.

 

100% Pascal-sensei

The story focuses on an elementary school teacher who is so stupid he can’t even write his own name, and just does whatever he likes in the classroom. On top of this, he’s clearly not human.

 

Atom: The Beginning

A prequel story leading up to the birth of Astro Boy. In Japan, after the great calamity, Umatarou Tenma and Hiroshi Ochanomizu dreamed of the future. The two geniuses worked together in robot research – Tenma to create a ‘god’ and Ochanomizu to create a ‘friend’. From this collaborative friendship, the robot A106 was born.

 

Eromanga-sensei

Masamune Izumi is a high school student and a light novel author on the side. He’s never met his artist, known only as Eromanga-sensei, and Masamune assumes he’s just some perverted otaku. Masamune’s only family is his younger sister, Sagiri, a shut-in who doesn’t even leave her room for meals. Eventually, Masamune discovers that Sagiri is Eromanga-sensei, and the siblings must team up against a beautiful shoujo manga creator who becomes their rival.

 

Re:Creators

Humans have created many stories, but what if the characters in the stories have their own intentions? Are humans gods to them for bringing their worlds into existence? In Re:Creators, everyone becomes a Creator.

 

Frame Arms Girl

When Ao opens a package that arrives on her doorstep, she finds Gourai – a Frame Arms Girl equipped with an Artificial Self AI that gives her a personality. So begins Gourai’s daily life with Ao, who knows nothing about Frame Arms Girls.

Nino loves singing, and made a childhood promise with her crush Momo and composer Yuzu that she would one day find her voice. Now she’s in high school, and tries to reach out to them with her song.

 

Gin no Guardian

Suigin is one of the best video game players, but nobody knows this but his classmate, Riku. She gives Suigin a strange mobile device, but is kidnapped before she can explain what it’s for. While looking for a way to save her, Suigin accidentally activates the device and finds himself dragged in to a new game world.

 

Warau Salesman NEW

Fukuzou Moguro is a travelling salesman who gives customers whatever their heart desires for free. However, if a client goes against his advice, they’ll find themselves paying a heavy price…

 

Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism

Troublesome student Fudou Nomura transfers into a school where girls are permitted to carry weapons. Once there, he becomes the target of Rin Onigawara, one of the Five Ruling Swords who run the school! In order to break free, he must defeat the Five Ruling Swords!

 

Seikai Suru Kado

Kojiro Shindo is at Haneda Airport on a business trip when a giant structure appears out of thin air and takes the plane inside! There Kojiro and the other passengers meet a man who looks like an ordinary human being. After Kojiro asks him to explain what’s happening, every passenger’s mobile goes off and shows a message saying “I, Yaha-kui zaShunina, hereby notify you that I am going to intervene in Japan’s internal affairs”.

A girl named Yuuka encounters a being from the depths of the Earth named Chii-chan and an alien named Ucchan. The story follows their heartwarming and chaotic everyday lives together.

A ‘hyper casual fantasy’ set in a seemingly traditional fantasy world, but featuring smartphones, convenience stores, and other elements of modern life.
