Switch Dead Pixels “Should Not be Considered a Defect” Say Nintendo

Dealing with a dead pixel can be massively irritating, especially on a brand new screen. I myself had to deal with it for most of my DS Lite’s life, and I continuously had to massage my laptop’s back throughout the end of its life. Of course Switch dead pixels have been reported. But Nintendo say it’s not an issue.

Small numbers of stuck or dead pixels are a characteristic of LCD screens. These are normal and should not be considered a defect.

Uh-oh! While it is true that these things can just happen, dead pixels can sometimes be really bad. It’s probably super frustrating to have this happen and be told that nothing can be done about it.

Right in the middle? Ouch. It’s not as if Nintendo Switch is cheap, and even finding one can be a real hassle. For those affected it must be really deflating.

As for me? My own personal Switch is still in the box. Fingers crossed! Beyond the Nintendo FAQ, Nintendo haven’t specifically address any individual issues that we’ve seen. Generally manufacturers have varying policies depending on how bad the dead pixels are, though this broad FAQ answer suggests they won’t? For the DS, though, Nintendo did eventually offer to replace units, so we’ll see.
