The 5 Most Exciting Things to Look Forward to in Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood

It’s finally happening — Final Fantasy XIV is getting its next expansion (and second ever) since the first one, Heavensward, came out in June 2015. Which isn’t to say Square Enix haven’t been happily pumping out some excellent free updates. But the time has finally come for a wave of fresh, new content to hit us like a wave.

Being a full on expansion Stormblood is going to be jam-packed with some quite different new additions to Final Fantasy XIV. To list them all would make for an extremely log blog post, but here’s some of the most exciting things Stormblood is bringing that we’re looking forward to the most. Stormblood is out June this year!

Red Mage

The red mage is so mysterious. It’s always been the case in the Final Fantasy series that the red mage sort of bridges the gap between black mages and white mages. Here the red mage is a little different, but the concept and premise are still there. Also the hat is super cool. The new red mage bridges the gap between melee and magic, allowing you to juggle both, and even offering special skills to help give you distance for switching between those styles — for instance jumping you back away from an enemy so you can start launching skills.

The Mysterious Second Job

Even though Stormblood‘s June release date is relatively close, we still have no idea what the second new job to be added to the game will be. All we know is that Yoshi-P was wearing a Spider-Man t-shirt as a hint. The excitement of possibilities is what’s really getting us about this one. Could it be Samurai, as some have speculated? Or perhaps a Blue Mage — which would give the expansion a whole lovely red mage / blue mage sort of thing. Waiting to find out is like waiting for Christmas.

Finally More Story

Even though there have been some story updates given away for free, they’ve obviously been constrained to the same regions. Now we’re finally able to journey Ala Mhigo ourselves to see what all the fuss is about. It’s time to stop drip feeding story updates, and to finally tuck into something more substantial. Final Fantasy XIV has always been a bit different to other MMOs in the way it really values story, and also in the way its fans often share that value. Getting more of Final Fantasy XIV‘s story might just be the most exciting thing on this list. For an MMO, that’s huge praise.

The New 24-Man Raid… in Ivalice!?

That’s right — this one is exciting two-fold! Not only is this first 24-man raid (they’re usually 8), but it also returns us to Ivalice, which is where Final Fantasy XII and Tactics is based. The raid’s story even sees Yasumi Matsuno take the reigns, Mr. Final Fantasy XII himself. Not only will this whet our appetites for Final Fantasy XII Remaster (which should be coming out around the same time), but it could very well end up being one of our favourite raids in Final Fantasy XIV.

Playing Even More Final Fantasy XIV

Yep, one of the best things about Stormblood is the simple fact that Final Fantasy XIV will be getting a whole heap of content across the board. From increased level caps, tonnes of new quests, raids, and areas, and even new features in swimming. Stormblood is looking like it will provide the same awe inspiring feeling of wonder that we felt first leaving our starting towns and exploring the world for the first time. And for an expansion, that’s exactly what you want.

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood will release 20th June 2017.

Spread the love!
