Winter 2017 Anime Releases Rundown

As the Autumnn 2016 series draw to a close, it’s time to start deciding on what to watch for the next great season of anime! Check out the list below for a rundown of the Winter 2017 anime releases new series and continuing ones.

Little Witch Academia

After seeing the renowned witch Shiny Chariot at a magic show years before, it was Akko Kagari’s goal to become a cool witch like her. Akko enrolls in the prestigious witch academy for girls, Luna Nova Academy. Inept at magic, Akko is finally presented with an opportunity to prove herself as a witch when a rampaging dragon threatens to flatten the entire campus!

 

Kuzu no Honkai

Mugi Awaya and Hanabi Yasuraoka appear to be the perfect couple and are the envy of the school. However, not is all is as it seems. Both of them are in love with other people, and only dating each other in an attempt to soothe their loneliness. How long can they keep their secret?

 

Masamune-kun no Revenge

Makabe Masamune used to be an overweight child, resulting in merciless teasing from one particular girl – Adagaki Aki. Masamune set about transforming himself with the aim to one day exact his revenge upon her. The Hand Shakers are pairs of individuals who can summon weapons from their mind by joining hands with their partner. These pairs compete against each other in battle for the opportunity to challenge ‘God’ and have their wish granted.

Based on the visual novel from the creators of Steins;Gate. Exactly 6 years on from a huge disaster that befell Shibuya, strange events begin to occur in the area. Among these is a string of mysterious deaths…

 

 

ACCA 13-ku Kansatsu-ka

The kingdom of Dowa is divided into 13 states, overseen by the organisation ACCA. Jean Otis is the second-in-command of ACCA’s inspection agency, and its craftiest member. It’s up to this agency to keep track of all the activity across the kingdom.

Chuuta Kokonose is a normal boy, except for the voice in his head that’s he’s heard for as long as he can remember. One day, a strange creature appears and teleports him to a space police station, where’s told he’s been chosen as a potential candidate to join the force. Though shocked at first, Chuuta decides to take the aptitude test, after being urged on by the voice in his head…

Akiba’s Trip The Animation

Akihabara has been invaded by Synthisters – vampire-like creatures who feed on the social energy and will to live of its patrons. To stop these creatures, their clothes must be ripped off to expose them to sunlight. As battles against the Synthisters are fought, a ‘boy meets girl’ story begins!

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon

Kobayashi is your average office worker, until she saves the life of a dragon. Determined to repay her debt, the dragon starts to live with her and help out, whether Kobayashi likes it or not.

 

Urara Meirochou

A slice-of-life series about four girls aspiring to be fortune-tellers in Meiro-machi, the town of fortune-telling.

 

Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu

Maiharu Hiromi has moved town, and decides to start her new life by cycling to school. On the way there, she meets Akizuki Tomoe, the leader of the girls’ cycling club. Hiromi joins the club, and her life begins to change.

 

Marginal#4: Kiss kara Tsukuru Big Bang

Anime adaptation of the otome game, following a fictional idol group.

 

BanG Dream!

When Kasumi Toyama was young, she heard a sparkling and exciting sound while looking at the night sky. Since then, she has always been searching for this ‘Star Beat’. Just after starting high school, she finds a star-shaped guitar in a pawn shop. With a rush of excitement she hasn’t felt before, she teams up with four other girls to begin a musical journey to find the shiny place.

 

 

Onihei

A historical seinen series. In the heart of the Tenmei era, Heizou Hasegawa is the chief officer of the department charged with the safety of the region.

 

Schoolgirl Strikers: Animation Channel

Girls’ private school Goryoukan Academy has a special unit, the Fifth force, dedicated to fighting an enemy called the Oburi. This story follows the girls known as Strikers, selected for the task.

 

Nyanko Days

A comedy series about a shy girl who comes home one day to find her cats have been personified.

 

Piace: Watashi no Italian

High school student Morina Nanase begins work at Trattoria Festa, an Italian restaurant. Here she meets a cast of quirky characters, including the child prodigy chef Maro Kitahara, and begins to grow as a person through her work.

 

One Room

A series of shorts telling ‘three stories raised in your (one) room’.

 

Chiruran: Nibun no Ichi

In 1912, a young woman tracks down the elderly Nagakura Shinpachi to ask him about the Shinsengumi’s Vice Commander, Hijikata Toshizou. What follows is the story of the violent young man who would become the Demon of the Shinsengumi.

 

Idol Jihen

A group of idols calling themselves the ‘idol Diet members’ stand up to a corrupt government and use song and dance to restore happiness to the people. These idols are members of seven different political parties: the Heroine Party, the SOS Party, the Subculture New Party, the Bishoujo Party, the Wakabe Party, the Starlight Party, and the Sanrai Party.

 

Kemono Friends

Jabari Park is a gigantic integrated zoo where a mysterious ‘sand star’ substance has caused the animals to start turning into demi-human Animal Girls. One day, a lost child wanders into the park. As the child starts a journey to leave the park, many Animal Girls join in on what becomes a grand adventure.

 

Chou Shounen Tantei-dan NEO

Another series based on Edogawa Ranpo’s series of novels about the great detective Akechi Kogorou. The year is 2117, and the battle of minds between Akechi Kogorou and The Fiend With Twenty Faces has now lasted for seven generations!

 

Sentai Hero Sukiyaki Force

A surreal comedy emphasising Gunma’s self-sufficiency in sukiyaki ingredients. The Sukiyaki Force fight against the forces of Kiraida threatening to destroy the world.
