Disgaea 5 Battle System Details
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will be the debut of the series on PlayStation 4. But, more importantly, it’s the first Disgaea sequel in 4 years. Not only have Nippon Ichi Software had new hardware to play with when looking to innovate with the next entry in the series, but they’ve had a lot of time to do it. NIS America have now revealed what makes the Disgaea 5 battle system different, and shared some screenshots.
Disgaea 5 incorporates 3 new battle systems, allowing for some interesting new strategies not available in the prior Disgaea games. Old tactics might not always work here — which is one of the things strategy game sequels need the most!
Alliance Attacks
Building on the idea of Team Attacks, the main characters of Disgaea 5 have access to a new attack system called Alliance Attacks which allows them to team up with a specific teammate to deal massive damage!
Revenge Mode
Another new addition to the battle mechanics of the Disgaea series, the Revenge Mode, allows you to power up your characters when their allies take damage or are defeated. Revenge Mode also unlocks powerful new abilities for your characters called Overloads.
Overloads
Each Overlord has a number of unique special skills with completely over-the-top, and awe-inspiring animations to assault your foes. These new attacks can only be used by a character who has entered Revenge Mode.
