Dragon Quest XI World and Sylvia Shown Off

Square Enix has updated the official Japanese website for upcoming JRPG Dragon Quest XI with more details on towns, dungeons and exploring, and new character Sylvia’s official art. It also shows off the differences between the PS4, Switch and 3DS versions of the game.

Whilst there may be very little that will be new to JRPG fans, it’s nice to see Dragon Quest finally take the dive in coming to home consoles — there was Dragon Quest X but that was an MMO. Towns will be important as they will be where you buy new items and equipment, and you’ll have to gather information by speaking to townspeople or eavesdropping on their conversations by approaching them and standing nearby. Each town will be different and, like in JRPG’s before it, will change depending on their location and climate — I imagine this means that some towns will sell equipment best suited for those areas.

When exploring outside, you’ll come across unique enemies who only appear dependent on the time of day and you’ll come across things such as trees that can be shaken or destructible objects to find certain items. You can ride a horse and bash enemies with it too! Dungeons are rife with monsters and traps, and these traps can take the form of a collectable which might not be what it seems. There will be puzzles to get your brain muscles working too.

You’ll be setting up camps around bonfires when you want to rest and save your game – I assume there’s no auto-save here. These features are the same across both the PS4, Switch and 3DS versions but, of course, they look a whole lot different. You can check them out in the gallery below, along with fresh face Sylvia’s official 2D art.
