The Exciting New Features in RPG Maker MV

Enterbrain is coming out with their new RPG Maker, RPG Maker MV. It brings some highly requested and necessary improvements that make the already excellent RPG Maker better and far more accessible. The English version is slated to be released on 23rd October by Degica on Steam.

RPG Maker or how it’s known in Japan, RPG Tsukuru, is a series of tools for making RPG games that dates as far back as 1988. It was developed by ASII Corporation, now Enterbrain. After the highly successful RPG Maker 2000, 2003, XP, VX and VX Ace comes a new iteration in the form of RPG Maker MV.

Multi-device support and porting to mobile platforms is a welcome addition, as previous versions only supported Windows PCs. RPG Maker MV will support creating games for Windows, MacOSX, Android, iOS and HTML5 for Web browsers. In addition, you will finally be able to build games on Mac.

As there will be native support for mobiles, RPG Maker MV will have support for touch controls. And on the PC there will be game pad support, along the standard keyboard and mouse. Aside the classic front-view battles, the developers will get the option of using the highly requested side-view battles in a style of classic Final Fantasy games.

Users of the previous installments of RPG Maker will be happy that the three-layer system from RPG Maker 2000 and XP is back. This essentially gives the advantage of separating the game’s presentation from the game script.

There are numerous other improvements including higher number of database items (2000 over the previous 999), higher resolution of the game at 816×624 pixels and character resolution (48×48 pixels over the previous 32×32).

English version is slated to be released on 23rd October by Degica on Steam, with pre-orders available from the official site and Steam page.
