Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto Review (Anime)

Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto‘s Sakamoto reminds me of Persona 4‘s Yu Narukiami, in that they’re suave, cool and always know exactly what to do. Sakamoto is flawless, but you can’t hate him just because you ain’t him, you know? He oozes style, and he makes for some hilarious viewing.

From his very first day, Sakamoto is praised and loved by classmates, teachers – you name it. A few male students become envious of his reputation though, and it doesn’t take very long for him to win them over either. You’d think that an anime focusing on how one student consistently excels would become tiring, but it doesn’t. Each episode is a series of skits which offer one question – just how perfect is Sakamoto? Apparently, he’s perfectly perfect.

It’s genuinely hilarious, and I might’ve fallen for Sakamoto a little myself!

The outlandish situations that Sakamoto finds himself in, whether it is dealing with a relatively larger than normal bee, saving a bird from a rainstorm, or helping out with bullying, Sakamoto excels in every way. It’s genuinely hilarious, and I might’ve fallen for Sakamoto a little myself! The mixture of deadpan and crazy comedy makes for great laughs, and author Nami Samo keeps it short and sweet – and stylish – with only 13 episodes and four manga volumes.

There are some very interesting fan-theories about the series, which is not something I expected when going in. Admittedly, I don’t agree with the fan-theories but they’re compelling none-the-less. It might be worth a Google once you’ve finished the series, but it’s nice to see the anime capture the creator’s work so brilliantly, and to see it adapt the entire plot.

Studio Deen has done a great job in capturing the tone of the original work, and there’s no expense spared in bringing Sakamoto to his wonderful full fruition. It’s colourful and very sparkly, and there’s no one weak skit. That also means that they’re well-animated and will keep your attention, because there’s no way you’ll want to miss a single joke, whether it’s verbal or visual.

Houston Hayes brings the sublime, cool and collected Sakamoto excellently to life, and the supporting cast consisting of Luci Christian, Greg Ayres and more do a solid job in being a more normal student. The difference between Hayes’ and the other’s performances makes the difference between Sakamoto and his classmates more defined. The opening and ending themes are catchy, too.

He’ll blow you away alongside his classmates.

Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto is a comical comedy, and if you fancy a laugh then you don’t want to miss out on this perfect boy. He’ll blow you away alongside his classmates and as much as I’d have liked to have seen more of Sakamoto’s antics, I believe decided wisely when she opted to bring the series to a finish. In style.

Spread the love!
