An Introduction to Upcoming MAGES Anime Lost Song
Lost Song is an upcoming original TV anime from MAGES with a stellar team of staff and an intriguing premise where the destinies of two young women intertwine and music and magic combine in a way that can change the world — or perhaps ruin it.
Here’s an overview of the story from MAGES:

An all-new, classic fantasy starring Yukari Tamura and Konomi Suzuki as the two heroines. Rin, an energetic girl who loves to eat, lives in a verdant frontier village. Deep within the royal palace in the bustling capital city, the songstress Finis spends her days in solitude. Both share a special power no other person has. A miraculous power that can heal wounds, create water and stir the wind — the power of song.
Guided by destiny, the two young women each face an arduous journey with the power of song. The shadow of war looms over the kingdom, tainting even the miraculous songs with the blood of innocents. Loved ones meet their deaths as silent screams echo through a stone prison. As two destinies intersect, will the final song be one of despair, hope or…?
The beautiful world of Lost Song we can see in the promotional screenshots may look idyllic, but beneath the surface lurks a darkness that puts the kingdom at peril and could easily throw the lives of both Finis and Rin into turmoil!
The two protagonists, Rin and Finis, lead very different lives, but are their destinies are connected by the mysterious power of song they share.
Rin is a straightforward, energetic girl who was taken in by the village Elder as a child and raised as a part of his own family. Her song has the power to heal wounds, and she dreams of singing in the city.
Rin is voiced by Konomi Suzuki. Rather than her voice acting roles, Konomi Suzuki is better known for anime songs, and has provided opening and ending songs for series such as Chaos;Child, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and No Game, No Life. She performs Lost Song‘s opening song too!
Our other protagonist, the songstress Finis, lives in the capital city, and is revered as a goddess for the miraculous power of her singing. She is the bride-to-be of the kingdom’s first prince, who keeps her confined in the castle. Though the prince wants to use the power of her singing to control other countries, Finis is a pacifist, and instead sings to see the smiling faces of the people listening.
Finis is voiced by Yukari Tamura, who you might recognise as Suzuha from Steins;Gate, as well as a large number of other roles, including Nanoha Takamachi from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Rika Furude from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and Elizabeth Midford from Black Butler.
Alongside Rin and Finis are plenty of other interesting characters such as Pony Goodlight, a minstrel of the royal court with a gambling habit, and Monica Lux, a shy, musical genius. The character designs are very colourful and eye-catching!
Of course, with the power of song being such an important plot element, Lost Song needs to have great music! The lyrics are handled by Aki Hata, who provided lyrics for Love Live!, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Lucky Star. The music itself is by Yusuke Shirato, who has provided music for THE IDOLM@STER and popular idol bands AKB48, and SKE48, and Keyakizaka46! Those are going to be some very catchy songs!
Lost Song will have 12 episodes, and will be broadcast by Netflix in 2018.
