One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition Review (Switch)
Quick on the heels of the Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Trilogy port, Bandai Namco has now brought over one of the best Musou games to Switch with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition. Despite having played through most of its content on PS4, this is a blast to play through once again.
Taking us through the major story beats of One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is bursting with content and it’s an absolute dream for fans. Not everyone will dig the Musou formula but this is one of the best Musou games around thanks to One Piece‘s unique, colourful art style and faithful dedication to bringing the characters to life perfectly.
Despite having played through most of its content on PS4, this is a blast to play through once again.
We’ve reviewed the game for PS4 in the past and I know what your question is – is Pirate Warriors 3 on Switch worth picking up, especially when it’s cheaper on other systems? Well, that depends on how much you want to play it on the go, but it’s vastly superior to the Vita version.
If you’ve never played Pirate Warriors 3 before then the Switch version is my vote for the best one. It’s near-identical to the PS4 version, and you can play it on the go! It performs superbly undocked and the brevity of many of the game’s missions make this a great pick for playing when travelling or maybe when you just want to lay about in bed. It is a shame you can’t transfer saves from other systems over, but I never expected the option either.
Pirate Warriors 3 is a beautiful game and it’s done justice on Switch. There’s some slowdown when performing a special attack on a large group of enemies, but other than that it runs nice and smooth. Unlike on Vita, the undocked Switch version doesn’t lose any fidelity and remains looking crisp.
All DLC is included so there’re a bunch of costumes to don and challenging missions to tackle, but sadly there’s still no English dub – it’s a shame that One Piece games aren’t being dubbed yet, but Bandai Namco have shown interest in it thanks to recent surveys.
Pirate Warriors 3 is further proof that Musou games are a perfect fit for Switch.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition is a fantastic game that acts as great fan-service for die-hard fans, and a solid starting point for those unfamiliar with the series. Oodles of engaging content, stunning visuals and faithfulness to the source material put this among the best One Piece games, – of which there have been many! I hope we get a Pirate Warriors 4 someday, perhaps featuring another original story, and Pirate Warriors 3 is further proof that Musou games are a perfect fit for Switch.
