Sonic Mania Bonus Stages, Time Attack Mode and Special Stages

Sega has released one more promotional video to hype us up before the release of Sonic Mania on the 15th this month for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. Can this be the revival for Sonic games that we hoped for? We’ll find out soon enough.

The aforementioned video shows off Special Stage, Bonus Stage and Time Attack mode. In special stages you race against a time limit collecting rings and orbs. It is quite reminiscent of mini-games in the old titles. Still there is a bit of a modern twist as it now employs fully 3D stages which quite surprisingly don’t look that out of place. The Bonus Stage shows Sonic, Knuckles and Tails going after those pesky blue and red orbs like in the original Sonic 3 game. And Time Attack is just what you would expect, but you now can upload your best times online and hope that you can be the fastest player in the world.

Here is what Sega has to say about these stages:

Bonus Stages – In “Blue Spheres”, players navigate Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of blue spheres to clear the stage. But be careful! Once touched, the blue spheres will turn red. Touching a red sphere instantly ends the Bonus Stage. Silver Medallions are awarded to players who complete the Bonus Stage, while collecting all the blue spheres and rings awards players with a perfect score and a Gold Medallion.

Time Attack – Prove you’re the best of the best in Time Attack, which lets players compete for fastest speed in the world by recording their time in the game’s online leaderboard.

Special Stages – Players chase down enemy UFOs to secure various Chaos Emeralds. Collecting blue spheres along the way will give their character an added boost of speed to their meter. Once the meter fills up, the Mach level increases. Just watch out and don’t speed off the stage!
