Visual Novel Localisation News from AX 2014

As AX kicks off over in America, a number of companies are sharing news of their visual novel localisation lineups. This year we have a lot of classic titles to look forward to, in addition to some promising titles for practically everyone to enjoy.

With Los Angeles’ biggest anime convention, Anime Expo, kicking off yesterday, a number of companies have announced their future plans – with a lot of visual novel titles to be released in the coming years. Here’s a handy breakdown of what has been announced:

Sekai Project brought out their big guns this year at their very first AX panel. They announced that the short Visual Arts/KEY game Planetarian will be released on Steam, bringing the story of a scavenger and a robot’s brief meeting in a dying world to more people. The game is expected to release this Autumn.

They also announced the localisation of Grisaia no Kajitsu, a lengthy visual novel featuring a transfer student whose sudden arrival changes the lives of five troubled and problematic girls. While there is no release date announced, there is news that it will be an all-ages version.

In addition to this, Sekai Project have been keeping their Kickstarter campaigns strong, releasing an English demo for fault -milestone one-, and regularly updating the wildly successful campaign to localise all games in the World End Economica series. Not to mention that the group is selling limited edition physical copies of their upcoming Paca Plus release.

Mangagamer also had many titles to announce, giving female fans much to look forward to after the announcement of Ozmafia, a tale of a young girl raised by the mafia,  and NO, Thank You!!!, a boy’s love game with bartenders and, well, boys. They also announced Steam release plans for Higurashi When They Cry, with an update to graphics and translation, with plans to release the game by the end of the year.

Rounding up the news is the announcement of Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning!, a steampunk game from Liarsoft and the latest in their steampunk series. With this, Mangagamer has introduced three new genres to their usual lineup, making it an important time for otome, BL and general visual novel fans to show how much they want new games.

And, in some news that went under many people’s radars, JAST USA announced the localisation of Kana: Okaeri, the 2004 remake of Kana ~Little Sister~ (with voices) in addition to Harajuku Dating Paradise (18+) and My Girlfriend is the President Fandisc. After mentioning that many of their other projects are still being worked on (including one secret Nitro+ title), JAST also announced their plans for Lightning Warrior Raidy 3.

Whether you’re a fan of the classics or eager to get into some new visual novels, the announcements coming from AX are definitely something to be excited about. The new Steam announcements also mean new audiences can get into the games, and it’s always good to inspire a new wave of players with the stories many fans have enjoyed for years.

Spread the love!
