Waiting to Play Tales of Link? Well, Now You Only Have 2 Months Before it Shuts Down

A moment of silence, please, for Tales of Link. It’s a smartphone Tales Of spin-off that launched in 2014, and has maintained a fanbase ever since. But, Bandai Namco have now deemed it time to shut the game down for good. Microtransactions will be unable from 26th February, with the service ending later on 28th March.

If you’ve been waiting, now’s the time. For those who really enjoy the concept of video game archival like myself (and probably you?), this is truly a moment of sadness. After March this game loads of people enjoyed and played for years will BAM be gone. Just like that.

Everyone is looking after one another on the Tales of Link Reddit. They’re sharing memories, lamenting the loss, and some are even trying to figure out how to keep the game alive unofficially.

Many users saw this coming, but most didn’t expect it to be quite this soon. The game even had a New Year event, and a current event is ongoing.

It perhaps doesn’t help that another Tale Of smartphone spin-off, Tales of the Rays, released last year. The gameplay is quite different, and closer to modern Tales Of games, but it does share similarities in how it represents the series as a whole.

Ultimately, running two smartphone games based on the series at once just doesn’t seem to have been paying off for Bandai Namco.

It’s cool that at least Tales Of fans still have Tales of the Rays to go to, but it doesn’t make the passing of Tales of Link any less sad. And it also puts into perspective all of the microtransactions and grinding and saving you do in these kinds of games. If the service can just stop, then what was the point? It’s a toughie.

Tales of Link fans have until 28th March 2018 until they are evicted from the service forever. If you’re looking for support, hop into the Reddit.

Spread the love!
