Yakuza 5 coming to Europe and North America next year

Sony has announced at their spectacular Sony Experience event tonight that Yakuza 5 will finally be making its way overseas. Praise be to Sony and SEGA!

Yakuza 4 and Dead Souls will also be hitting the PlayStation Store this year on the 7th in EU and the 6th in NA. They’re terrific games so you should totally give them ago, alongside Yakuza 3 also available on PS3.

Toshihiro Nagoshi, the Executive Director and General Producer of Yakuza 5, has commented on fans desire to bring the game overseas, saying:

“After receiving so many requests from fans of the series, we have decided to bring Yakuza 5 to the US and Europe. This title was enjoyed by over one million gamers in Japan. I’m looking forward to seeing how Yakuza 5 will be received by the gamers in the US and Europe.”

Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama agreed, saying:

“Yakuza 5 is the largest and most definitive version of the Yakuza series. The game is filled with depictions of the Japanese way of life, culture, trends, social issues and dreams. You will play as 5 different main characters with a range of different ages, genders and professions and experience their challenges through a variety of character focused, in-depth stories. I hope you can immerse yourself in our rendition of modern time Japan.”

Yakuza 5 originally released in Japan in 2012, so fans were worried that SEGA would never bring it over but thankfully they are. It will be available exclusively on PS3 as a digital download next year, and I’m so excited to finally get my hands on it!
